Unlike 2014 the quota quantity will not be allocated to each vessel. Area 1 gets 125.459 tons, area 2 gets 20.329 tons and area 3 gets 179.227 tons. A large part of area 3 is Norwegian, which is not accesable for Danish vessels and therefore of no use. When the quota quantity in area 1 is fished, the area will be closed regardless of the fact that the single vessels has not taken his calculated quantity.
When Denmark introduced the quota system with individual transferable quotas (ITQ), one of the main backgrounds were the possibility of each vessel to plan its own fishing effort over the season. This year the Danish administration disregards the system, which is considered a severe drawback in the industry.
